Question
I've been in the army for a little over a year now. When i signed up, i was supposed to recieve a 9k bonus on completion of AIT and reporting to my first duty station. I also signed up for the ACF and MGIB. I've been at ft stewart for over 7 months now, having submit the paper work about half a dozen times. Apparently there was a problem when the computer generated the contract. It put down a 10k bonus, and the guy at meps crossed it out, put down 9k, and anotated it with some reg number. The finance dept here at ft stewart will not accept that, but when i call meps they say its perfectly legal, and they even faxed the paper work to prove it. Still no payment on my bonus. I heard that this is considered a breach of contract and can get me out, but i'm not sure that i want that yet. If i do, who would i contact about that. And if i did get discharged for that, would i be eligible for reenlistment at a later date?

Thanks,
Scott

Answer
Hi Scott,

This is exactly what the local IG (Inspector General)'s office was designed for.

You have a problem because one command has different standards from another command (finance has different standards from MEPS). This is the perfect example of what the IG was designed to resolve.

In short, make an appointment with your local IG (Inspector Generals) office. I bet they'll be able to fix the problem pretty fast.

Hope this helps!
