Question
I received an RE 4 when I was discharged from the Navy. The reason was for a condition not a disability. I need an RE 3 to get into the Army. I do not have that condition anymore and I really want to serve in the military. What do I need to do and who do I need to contact?

Answer
Hi William,

I'm afraid with an RE Code of "4" from the Navy, re-enlistment in the Army is not an option, as it's not one of the RE Code conditions that allow for a waiver. Reference is the Army Recruiting Regualtion, Army Regulation 601-210 (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyreg/l/blar601210.htm), Table 3-2 (page 26).

Under the Army recruiting regulation, an RE Code of "4" from the Navy is in the category of not-eligible for reenlistment, and no waiver authorized.

Your only possible option is to try and get your RE Code changed through the Navy Records Review Board. Details about this can be found in my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/airforcebase/a/chgrecords.htm
