QuestionIs it possible to join the Army Rangers with a GED and no college credits if you score very high on the ASVAB? If not, can you join the Rangers under those same conditions but with prior service in the Army?
AnswerDear Bobby,
You can enlist the Army with a GED. Once you enlist, you can earn the opportunity to go to Ranger training. If you meet at least the Ranger minimum standards for fitness and aptitude (ASVAB score). If you pass Ranger training, you are an Army Ranger.
Your performance potential (as represented by education, and aptitude (the ASVAB)) determines what opportunities your are offered in your enlistment contract. You can still earn these opportunities by doing well in basic training and advanced individual training, as well as the first unit in which you serve.
While you are serving, you can apply for Ranger training. Your commander must recommend you, and you must be fit. You also must be willing to serve in a combat arms specialty.
Prior service does not weigh for or against you, unless you were discharged under less than honorable or worse conditions. There are age limits and fitness requirements that you must meet in order to attend Ranger School.
Good luck with your decisions.
