Question
I'm still on active duty in the Navy, but I'm being processed for administrative seperation with General discharge with an RE-4 (not for drugs) after an Admin Board. What are my chances of overturning that RE-4? How do I go about doing that while still on active duty, and when I'm finally out, is the process any different? My ultimate goal is to re-enlist, but not in the Navy, but the Air Force.

Answer
An RE-4 in the NAVY is Not eligible for re-enlsitment. This doed is recognized by all branches for being the same, sime carry more severity than others. The Air Force at the present time does not take "Prior Service".

If you plan on having this RE code overturned, then now is the time to get that ball rolling. If you wait, then you have to submit to a military change of record that is a lengthy process.

I know that some of the reserve and Natl guard will take an RE4 depending on the situation. This is one of those times that I would start talking about getting the RE code changed. At the same time start talking to the reserves. It may be your only way back to active duty if that is what you choose to do.

I am sorry about the Airforce, that is just their policy for the active sector. That wouldnt stop me from talking to the reserves though. There are several ART or Air reserve tech jobs that can be found that give you the same benifit as an active duty job.

Keep in touch and let me know how things transpire.
