Question
In 23 DEC 05, I was medically seperated from the Army with the
code SFK (temporary retirement) with the re code of "4".  I had chronic migraine headaches.  Since this time, my condition has improved and my headaches are almost non-exsistent.  I'd really like to get back into the uniform in the form of Coast Guard.  What can I do to get into the USCG?

Answer
Hi Cole,

Okay, I'm confused.

"Temporary Retirement" would usually indicate that you have been placed on the TDRL (Temporary Disabled Retirement List), and are receiving a monthly medical retirement pay.

Under this program, you would be medically re-evaluated every 18 months (for up to a maximum of five years), and if your condition improved you would be brought back to active duty service in the Army.

If such is the case, you belong to the Army, and they can (and will) recall you to active duty, if the temporary medical condition no longer exists.

Have you been receiving medical retirement pay from the Army?, on the TDRL? If so, then I'm afraid that if your medical condition has improved so that you can perform on active duty, you have to return to the Army. If you haven't been receiving temporary medical retirement pay from the Army, then your discharge code (SFK) is in error.

Before I can advise you further, I need to know which is the case.

Hope this helps!
