Question
Hi
My name is Ken.  I graduated from the corp in 1987 and am 38 years old.  I completed ocs and my mos was a cook.  I was a hard worker and a good marine.  My problem was I was late alot in opening up the mess hall and wound up being discharged with a code of re-4.  Other than my latenesses I had no other problems.  Now that I am older and wiser I really want to get back in and serve my country.  I want to correct all the mistakes I made as a young kid.  I love the corp and miss it.  Do I have a chance, at least as a reservist?

Answer
Ken:

You completed OCS?  Were you an officer or an enlisted Marine?

An RE-4 reenlistment code is almost a kiss of death for getting back into the Marine Corps.  You might try the army reserves or the National Guard.

If you were an officer, your chances of coming back in the Corps are practically zero.   Not much higher if you were an enlistmed Marine, either.

Still, it's worth a shot to talk to a recruiter before it's too late and you get too old.  See what they have to say.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience
