Question
Jason, I do plan to speak with a recruiter as well, but (since you seem to get a lot of the Coast Guard questions) would like to have your perspective as well.
My nephew recently separated from the USCG (honorable discharge/no problems)to try his hand in the "greener pastures" of civilian life. He now realizes he made a mistake and would like to rejoin. Could you summarize the general rules and requirements for rejoining the Coast Guard?

Answer
Jim:

I'm not sure why I've gotten all the CG questions, since I've never served with them, but I've tried to answer them as best I can...for a Marine LOL.

Since your nephew didn't have any issues, re-enlisting should be rather simple.  If he is under 90 days, it's considered an 'immediate' re-enlistment and he can basically just go right back on active duty.  Any longer than that and there will be a few more steps to take along the way, but it shouldn't be a difficult process.  It will really depend on if he is trying to change jobs, duty stations, etc.

Believe it or not, with no problems and/or issues, the whole process may take as little as a week to complete.

 Good luck to him!

    Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
