Question
I just recently attended SOCOM Hell Week, Which was basically a documented Hell Week for Sony.. http://www.socomhellweek.com <-- I'm Jesse Lewis..

Anyway, I've been interested for quite some time, and I've learned what I need to improve on..

I know enlisted guys get more than one chance at BUD/s, but what about officers?

What security clearance level is obtained? Are you given a Lie-Detector test?

Thanks alot!

Answer
Hi JKTenchi,

There is no limit to the number of times an enlisted member or commissioned officer may apply for BUD/s during their career (up to the age of 28).

However, if they've previously failed BUD/s, their application would have to be approved by a selection board, before being allowed to re-try.

(NOTE:  Enlisted personnel who enlist with a guarantee of the SEAL CHALLENGE program in their enlistment contract, are guaranteed a minimum of three chances, regardless of selection board recommendation.  This does not apply to officers).

Enlisted personnel must hold a SECRET Clearance.  Some assignments may require a TOP SECRET.  Commissioned Officers must hold a TOP SECRET Clearance.

DoD only conducts polygraph tests for security clearance purpses, only under certain, limited circumstances, such as assignment to the Defense Security Agency (DSA), the National Security Agency (NSA), assignment to certain classified SCI (Special Compartmented Information) projects, or if the background information finds conflicting information.
