Question
I am in the Navy under the National Call to Service program, which seems simple enough to just serve the two years and then separate from the service, however, I was recently put on LIMDU for six months.  My EAOS is two months after the six months of LIMDU is up.  My plan is to go to college when I am able to get out, so is there a way I can get out early to prepare for that especially because I am on LIMDU?

Answer
Hi Liew,

The NCS program is not actually two years of active duty service.

It's 15 months of active duty service, following basic training and A-school, followed by at least two years of active Reserve commitment. For details, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/twoyearenlist.htm

As for a possible early separation from active duty, your LIMDU status isn't a factor. However, you may be eligible to separate from active duty up to 90 days early, for "Early Separation for Education." Details and criteria are in the Navy Personnel Manual (NAVPERS 15560D), paragraph 1910-108. The Manual can be read on-line at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/navyregs/p/navpers15560.htm
