Question
Mr Powers,
You provided guidance on shipping a POV from an overseas deployment in an article you authored.
My question, is this benefit afforded reservists, specifically Army reservists?  I can not find any document that would provide insight into this question.
Thanks,
LTC Melson

Answer
Hi LTC Melson,

Can you give me the URL (address) of the article? Unless I'm forgetting something, military members are not authorized *shipment* of POVs for an overseas "deployment." Military members (for many assignments) are authorized shipment of POVs for an overseas "assignment." (PCS Assignments overseas are much different than overseas "deployments.") To my knowledge, Reserve members do not make government-funded PCS moves (Permanent Change of Assignment) to and from overseas.

For deployments, military members are authorized government "storage" of POVs, but not shipment. In other words, a military member who makes a PCS move to Germany would be authorized to ship a vehicle to Germany (and back to the States), but a military member *deployed* to Iraq (whether active duty or Reserves) would not be able to take a vehicle with them to Iraq. Again, "deployment," and "overseas PCS assignments" are two entirely different things.

Hope this helps!
