Question
Hello,  My husband signed on for 3 years with the Army and would really like to change to the Air Force now having completed 1 year in the Army.  He is eligible to change his MOS now but he is wanting to switch over to the Air Force.  Is this possible?  Or does he have to wait till his 3 active duty years are over and then go on with the air force?

Thank you so much for your time. :D

Answer
Ni Nichole,

I'm afraid that enlisted members cannot simply "transfer" from one active duty branch to another, except under the following exceptions:

(1) Members of the active duty Navy and Air Force, who are serving in overmanned jobs can transfer to the active duty Army under a special program called "Blue to Green." (See: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyjoin/a/artransfer.htm).

(2) Qualified enlisted members in the active duty Marines, Air Force, or Navy can transfer to the Army to become Army Helicopter pilots, under the Army Warrant Officer Flight Training Program (WOFT).

I'm afraid he is going to have to first complete his Army active duty enlistment, get out, and then apply to join the Air Force has a prior service applicant (see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/priorservice.htm
