Question
I'm wondering what a Coast Guard Intelligence Officer does. The funny thing is I'm in the Coast Guard and I can't find out what they do. I just recently got my BS degree in criminal justice and would like to do some law enforcement (i.e. arrests, investigations, etc etc). I think I would be eligible for the direct commision intelligence officer field, but what do they do? So far I have found only recruiter type vague answers. I'd like to know specifically. Anyway any insight would be great.

Very respectfully

Answer
Hi Charles,

For the most part, they do the same job that Intel officers in the other military branches do.

If you're envisioning arrests and investigations, I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way.  Intel officers compile and analyze intelligence gathered from other government intelligence agencies.  In other words, for example, a CG Intel Officer would take tons of pages of Intel data, received from various agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, National Security Agency, Defense Security Service, etc., and compile and analyze that data as it pertains to Coast Guard missions.  They don't normally do law enforcement investigations.

Hope this helps!
