Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/USMCR Retired to Air Natinal Guard?

Question
I have spoken to local recruiters for the Air National Guard and was told that there were not any openings as an officer, but if I was willing to resign my commission, there were quite a few as an enlisted person.

I miss my previous relationship with the military and this sounds very interesting.

Have you heard of any similar cases where an officer (retired in my case) has resigned a commission to sign up as an enlisted person?

Answer
Andrew:

I think this is going to depend on several factors.  I have heard of this being done, but typically by someone on active duty going into the guard, or vice versa.  If you are fully retired and drawing retired pay, it's going to likely be extremely difficult, as I understand it, to do this.  However, the next thing I would do would be to check with your state's National Guard bureau or state headquarters personnel section, and likely they would be able to get you pointed in the right direction on how to go with this.  The guard has it's own set of rules and regulations and many times they are willing to do waivers for cases like this.  Give it a shot!  The worst thing that could happen is they tell you "no".

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
