Question
Hey, I am currently thinking about seeing a psychiatrist about being OCD.  I am in the Navy currently, and I am not sure if going and being diagnosed with it/medicated for it will be a a bad thing or not, I have only been in for a short time, and I dont want to go asking around, and having my LPO thinking I am crazy or something.

OCD Habits include, picking at nails, constant non-stop counting, and nervousness in situations that dont apply any stress.

Answer
Hi,

I would recommend going to see the psychiatrist. You don't have to tell the LPO that you are doing so (you just have to tell them you have a medical appointment).

Military medical records are confidential, and the psychiatrist isn't going to inform your commanding officer (or anyone else in your chain), unless there is a specific duty reason why they should (such as if they determine your condition in a security clearance risk, or a duty position risk, or can't be treated and should be considered for discharge).
