Question
.....I'm only 16, my xbf has always wanted to be a P.O.He has had a few run in's with the law,the last one was for possession of an ounce and a half of weed in his car.Now he says that if he goes into the Army for 4 years, that the judge will drop the charges and he'll have a clean record. Gee, he doesn't even have a HS diploma or a GED yet. He's almost 19.Can this really happen? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Charley,

I'm afraid your xbf is either blowing smoke (lying), or someone is lying to him.

First of all, in order to qualify for enlistment in the Army, he would have to have a GED or HS diploma, or he would have to have at least 15 college credits.

Second, it is against military regulations to accept a candidate for enlistment if they have pending charges, or if any judge, prosecuter, etc., has indicated that charges would be dropped, reduced, or in anyway modified if the person joined the military. For details, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/joinprison.htm

Hope this helps!
