Question
Hey Rod,

I have a couple questions that I hope you can answer.
First, I have decided that the Air Force is my branch of preference, so I will soon be paying a trip to MEPS to swear in. However, I am wondering... I know the Air Force is a little pickier in chosing out their people, so if for any reason i am DQ'd (by they way, i did not answer "yes" to any of the "yes"/"no" questions, except the one for the glasses), and the AF decideds not to allow me to apply for a waiver...is it still possible to switch to another branch who might allow it and still be able to join the military?
also, does having a high ASVAB score(93) improve the chances of a waiver?

i have this concern because I just recently dropped out of a very prestigious university to join the armed forces, and i would really hate to have this dream screwed over.

also, i would love to become a pilot, but im afraid my eyesight would not allow it. exactly how good does my vision have to be?
im not sure what mine is (20/40 etc...) but i know have a prescription of about +.75, -.25 or something like that...

last but not least,...
it would be nice to enter the AF as an E-2, so my recruiter told me that 22 collge units would do the trick.
I have 28 units, but they actually came from Advanced Placement courses that I took in High School, these are college level classes that allow HS students to obtain college credit if they pass a certain state exam at the end of the year. I would like to know if the military would consider these "appropiate" college units?

Answer
Hi Israel,

I'm afraid probably not, unless you've enrolled in a college program, and the college already granted you credits for the courses.

For advanced enlistment rank, you would require a transcript from an accredited college, showing any credit hours you have been awarded toward a degree, from that college.

For Air Force aviator (pilot/navigator) vision requirements, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/genjoin/a/pilotvision.htm

Unless your vison is very, very, very, very, very bad, you don't have to worry about it disqualifying you for enlistment. See: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/eyes2.htm

Hope this helps!
