Question
I recently found out my ex went awol from the marines. I brought him home thinking he was just discharged. I paid for the trip here... then the next day he wrecked my car... Then I find this out. I delt with it for a while.... Till I found out he was cheating. I want to turn him in. Just wondering what would actually happen to him. Go to Iraq. Get discharged or go to military jail? I think for what damage he's done so far here with cops involved something needs to happen now. He's no help to anyone here.

Answer
Amanda:

First, turn him in immediately.  He's a scumbag if he went UA, and he's obviously proven that several times over already since he's been home.  Contact your local police agency and report him as a suspected AWOL from the Marines, they will take it from there.

If he's taken back into custody, he'll eventually be given a bad conduct discharge after doing some well deserved jail time.

He won't go to Iraq, probably.  All this will also depend on how long he's been UA, if it's under 30 days, they'll keep him in.  If longer than that, he's a deserter and all the above will apply.  Either way, he needs to go back, get it taken care of, and 'man up'.

 Best regards,

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
