Question
Hi my name is Shawn Edwards and im 17 and a high school senior i want to go to college and then join ROTC and be commissioned as an officer. I know you were former Air FOrce so you will probabaly speak of them the best but i dont know what branch to choose ?

Answer
Hi Shawn,

Several factors would affect what branch you choose.

As you wish to join ROTC, I assume that you may be interested in an ROTC Scholarship?  If so, all branches aren't the same, and it depends in large part, on (1) What (if any) ROTC programs are available at the particular university/college you want to attend, and (2) whether or not you are accepted for an ROTC scholarship for that particular branch, at that particular university.

For example, let's say you are planning to attend the University of Whatyoumaycall it, and they only offer Army ROTC.  That pretty much narrows it down, doesn't it?  If you want to do ROTC, you have to choose programs that are available at the particular college/university you are attending (Some colleges have Army ROTC, some have Air Force ROTC, some have Navy ROTC, some have combinations of any of the above).

In short, first you have to figure out what college you plan to attend, and then you have to see what branches offer ROTC at that particular college.  After you discover that, you can then work on deciding which branch would be the best for you.

Hope this helps!
