Question
I am a Pfc in the Army. I have came to relized that the army is not my cup of tea. I wanted to know where can I get info on bridging over from Army to Air Force and what are the requirements.

Answer
Hi Jacquline,

I'm afraid it's not possible to transfer (or "bridge over") from one active duty service to another, as an enlisted member (exception: Those in the Air Force or Navy, serving in "overmanned" jobs can elect to transfer to the Army under a Special Program called "Blue to Green." For details, see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/armyjoin/a/artransfer.htm).

With the exception of the above program, you would first have to complete your current active duty enlistment, then get out, then apply to join the other service as a "prior service" enlistee. That's not as easy as it seems. For details see my "Prior Service Enlistee" article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/priorservice.htm

The bad news is that the Air Force isn't accepting prior service enlistees right now, unless they are already qualified (trained) in a job that the Air Force considers "critical," such as linguist.

In short, you're stuck with your Army commitment, whether it's your "cup of tea" or not.
