Question
I was in the Coast Guard for a year and a half. Absolutely loved it. My mom got sick with cancer in this time and I requested to transfer home. They didnt have any room and I was depressed so I told them I was gay got an honorable discharge but cant reinlist. Everything is fine now and its been two years. I want to join as a reservist. I have to request that my re entry code be change though and have no clue how to do that. A recruiter told me that was the only way and its a family tradition to be a coastie so i have to get back in. how do i get my re entry code changed?

Answer
Hi Lauren,

The only way to change your RE Code is to request a change to your military records. For details about how to do this, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/airforcebase/a/chgrecords.htm

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high, however. Apparently, you lied in order to effect a discharge. How can they trust you in the future?

Hope this helps!
