Question
A distant friend of mine just graduated from Marine boot camp and was given the award of "company honorman" out of more than five hundred people. What is a company honorman, and why is it so noteworthy and distinguished?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Lisa:

Company Honorman is basically the best Marine Recruit out of his entire company.   That means he had to be better than all 500 of his fellow recruits at Marine type things, as well as leadership ability.  This is something he was picked for by his Drill Instructors (he had to be platoon honorman, beating about 70 other recruits for that) then compete against the other platoon honormen.  The thing about all this is, he didn't know he was competing, this is not something the Drill Instructors tell you about until the last week, when the choices are already made!  So, it's not like he knew he was even competing, the Drill Instructors make the choice.  That's what makes this so special.

Along with this, he'll get a promotion right out of boot camp, (something done only for the best Marines).

It is a high honor, and a lot to live up to (this will go into his record book and be looked at everyplace he goes).

My congratulations to him!  Good luck in his career.

   Sgt G

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
