Question
my boyfriend recently left for marine bootcamp in parris island. I was wondering what his possiblities of being called for active duty are considering he is in the reserves. He left july 24th and will be done with bootcamp and MOS by january, he is going to colleg when he returns and if he obtains his required credits he wants to go to officer school next summer. Do you know what his chances of being called to active duty are?

Answer
Hi Nicole,

I wish I could answer your question, but I can't.

The vast majority of Marine Corps Reserve deployments are not based on deploying an individual member, but rather on deploying an entire unit.

In other words, he would normally be selected for deployment with the Reserve unit he is assigned to.

So, if the Reserve unit he is assigned to recently returned from deployment, he would not likely be selected to deploy until that unit was re-scheduled for another deployment in the future (Marine Corps Reserve units average being deployed about every four years).

On the other hand, if the Reserve unit he is assigned to is scheduled to deploy in the near future after he returns from MOS-training, he will likely deploy with his unit.
