Question
i recently got a dui 2 month go. i really want to get in the military so will this be a prob? and is there a way to have my lawyer convince judge to give smaller repercussions and work around my navy enlistment. for i am trying to better my life and be a good citizen.5 years  was my 1st dui.... is that really bad for my approval in navy?

Answer
Hi Rachele,

It's going to require a waiver to enlist (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marinejoin/a/criminal.htm). However, a waiver for a single DUI is not all that uncommon.

You'll want to make sure your lawyer ensures that the judge does not make a record of ordering you to enlist, instead of prosecution. As you'll note in the article, that would make you ineligible for enlistment.
