Question
I have had 2 DUI's.  The last one was 2 yrs ago.  I would like to join the Navy.  Would I be allowed to enlist in the Navy?  I am 24 yrs old and would very much like to enlist.  Would I be disqualified because of my past dui's?
THank you

Answer
Hi Tyler,

See my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marinejoin/a/criminal.htm

As you can see, under the section for "serious offenses," (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marines/l/blcriminal6.htm), two or more such offenses would require a waiver.

What are the chances that a waiver would be considered and approved? No one can say. Each and every waiver request is evaluated individually. It depends on several factors, including the exact circumstances of the offenses, your qualifications (ASVAB score, education level, etc.), and how bad the particular Military service needs your particular warm body at that particular point in time (i.e., how are they doing on their recruiting goals).

For more information about the United States Military, feel free to visit my U.S. Military Information Site at: http://usmilitary.about.com

Hope this helps!
