Question
I just transferred from a ship and the day I checked out to move to california from virginia I was told I had to sign an extension for 2 years past my EAOS. I have orders to BUD/S and I'm wondering if I'm dropped can I cancel the extension? I went to a seminar where they were trying to recruit people for SEALs and they said that you will have to obliserv in order to get you through training so that you can re-enlist under a new NEC and get the re-enlistment bonus. So basically they told me that I have nothing to lose by trying and that the extension only applies upon completion of SQT (SEAL qualification training), and that if I dropped I wouldn't have to do the obliserv. I'm worried that I was lied to, and I can't find any info on the web about this. Hopefully you can find something out, Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kameron,

Are you orders for a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move, or a Temporary Duty move?

It makes a difference. The Military Traffic Management Regulation (and federal law) requires that one have at least two years of retainability, before they can be moved on a PCS move.
