Question
im looking to become a riflemen and eventually get into force recon in the marines, so how high on the asvab test do I need to score, do I need to score a lot higher then average?

Answer
Hi Jason,

See: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0311.htm

To become a rifleman you must score a minimum of 80 on the subtests of the ASVAB which make up the Marine Corps GT Score (word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, and arithmetic reasoning).  An 80 in this area is not a very high score requirement (for example, to become a commissioned officer, one needs a minimum score of 110 in the GT composite score area).

To become recon you must score a minimum score of 105 in the GT composite score area.  See http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0321.htm
