Question
Hi, I'm currently stationed in Bahrain. I will be here for another year or so. I have found a car that is in good conditions and I would like to take it back to the states with me. I was told it has to be in US specs. Do you have any information about changing a car from UK to US specs.

Answer
Hi Orville,

Not specifically, because it's different from one car to another.

However, when I was stationed in Germany several years ago, many people there bought BMWs, Mercedes, etc. They then found out that to convert them to "U.S. Specs" would cost several thousands of dollars.

All the glass has to be replaced (with non-shattered glass), sides and doors have to be re-enforced, and -- in many cases -- the entire engine has to be replaced to comply with environmental standards.

Hope this helps!
