Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/inquiry to reenlist

Question
I was discharged from the Air Force for failing a random UA for cocaine. I was court martialed and given a Bad Conduct disharge. My DD 214 has a re code 2M. Will this prevent me from joing the coast guard reserves?

Answer
Hi Jason,

I'm afraid it will. The two services which have the most strict policy when it comes to illegal drug use is the Air Force and the Coast Guard.

A very large part of the Coast Guard's job (whether active duty, or Reserves) is drug interdiction. As such, they have a (very) low tolerance when it comes to illegal drug use of military members.

I'm sorry, but your chances of joining the Coast Guard with a BCD from another military service, with a court martial BCD conviction is pretty much non-existent.

I'm afraid that also, with a BCD, your chances of re-enlisting into any Military branch, just isn't going to happen.
