Question
hi i am turning 19 in december, i am working on getting my GED, also when i was 16 was ticketed for driving without a license,(pretty sure thats not a felony) but i was wondering if it is possible to be in AFROTC with a GED? and if so is my scholarship going to be reduced because i dont have a high school diploma?

Answer
Angelica,

Most AFROTC programs are located at universities and colleges that sponsor them. The real question is will the college or university enroll you with the GED. What I have found in the past is that you will have to attend a community college to get the college entry level education and then transfer to a university that has the AFROTC program.

If you were to enlist in the Air Force you would have to have 15 smester hours of college. This brings you to a HSD status.

I do not believe that the reducement of of benifits will not be as much of a factor as the facility allowing you to enroll with a GED. Those are the things that I would find out first. Then once you are able to enroll, then talk to the AFROTC unit at the facility about enrollment .

Let me know what you find out...

I have spent the past 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, 3 years was assigned as an Enlisted Accessions Recruiter. I have been deployed various times to several locations. If it is a career in the military you are looking for or thinking about I most likely have the answer. I still have contacts with in the recruiting field and if I don't know the answer then I have folks who do where I can find the answer. I am very blunt and straight forward and will make no attempts to BS you. I will give you the best information that I possible can can. If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
