Question
My boyfriend just joined the marine corps and he wants me to go with him wherever he is stationed.  The problem is that we both believe we are still to young to get married.  So my question is will I be able to live with him and if so what would the circumstances most likely be surrounding the possible living arrangements?

Thank you for your time,
Shayna

Answer
Hi Shayna,

Sorry, but the military will not pay for single members to "shack up" (if they did, tax-payers would have a Kiniption-fit).

Unless you are married, the military will not pay for you to move, nor will he be allowed to live off-base at government expense.

He will be assigned to a barracks room at his first assignment. Now, if you choose to move to that same area, and if you choose to rent an apartment on your own, the Marine Corps is not going to make him sleep in his barracks room. But, (if you're not married), they are not going to give him a housing allowance to help pay the rent.

Hope this helps!
