Question
I am a LCPL in the Marine Corps reserve, my husband is active duty going to be a recruiter and we are getting stationed in Phoenix AZ. I want to go active or active resrves but dont know what I should do because I want to be with my husband and children in Arizona, yuma is to far away but Luke air force base is right by us, would it be easyer to switch to the air force and do the rest of my contract or try to figure out how I can go active in the marines without leaving phoenix? I love the Corps and dont want to leave!

Answer
Jennifer:

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, here.  There are likely USMC reserve units in the Phoenix area, you can find out what they are by going to the USMCR website and checking to see if they have your MOS.  (Since reserves get assigned based on billet MOS openings).  If you are saying you've already done that and couldn't find anything, you can ask to be transferred to the IRR, then go into the USAF.  It's worth a shot if that's the way you want to go.

There is no real way to go active duty, unless you are trying to do ADSW at the local reserve unit.

Talk to your local career planner and see what they can work out with you.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.

Experience

Did a hitch in the Army reserves as an 11B (Infantryman), 3 years. Finished out my career in the Air National Guard as a BioEnvironmental Engineer MOS 4B3X1, did that for a few years.
