Question
My husband is a Lcpl in the usmc reserves. He signed as a reservist because the recruiters told him it was his only option given his dependents..although all he wants in life is to be an active duty marine.  He plans on being a lifer.  They did tell us he would be able to augment to active duty after mos school...anyway that seems to be a slow process and our dependents still seem to be an issue considering his rank. Its apparent that he may have to pick up more rank before he can augment, however, he would love to volunteer for a tour in iraq...can you tell me how he can do so...his recruiter has been little help!

Answer
Melanie:

If he is now a reservist, he should be able to volunteer to go on active duty with little or no problem.   Go to the USMCR website, there will be a list of current billet vacancies there that he can volunteer for.   They are always looking for Marines to volunteer and he shouldn't have any problem.   Don't deal with the recruiter any more if he is already a Marine, start going through his regular chain of command at the reserve unit.   They'll be able to help far more than the recruiter will, but again, check out that website as well.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
