Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/medical discharge

Question
My daughter enlisted in the army in July 04.  Since then she has had surgery on both feet to correct damage done to the bones in her feet from her combat boots.  She recently found out she now has a stress fracture in her femur, and went for a bone scan.  She is supposed to deploy to Iraq within the next month or two.  Would this condition make her eligible for an honorable discharge, and if so, what sort of benefits/pay would she be eligible for.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Karyn,

No way to say for sure. Whether or not she is deployment eligibile is up to the medical professionals. There isn't any "go/no go" list. The doctor(s) who are treating her condition will decide whether or not to put her on a profile which would preclude deployments.

Whether or not she would be discharged for a medical condition and -- what "disability percentage" she would receive for any such discharge is completely up to the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB).

I explain the process in detail in my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/a/medseparation.htm
