Question
Hi, I am a 36 yo female, I am in my final year of grad school for occupational therapy.  my question is am i too old for the navy direct commission program for Medical Service Corps? and I am married with 2 kids can that also pose a problem with a navy commission? I have no prior military service , but i have a bs in sociology, and a bs in criminal justice. Does the Navy even need OT's? especially in hand therapy or pediatrics, those are my two desired practice areas. thank you!

Answer
Astrid,

Sounds to me like you have all your ducks in a row!! To be totally honest, Not sure on that one. I can email some guys I know with that question and get back to you on the Navy stuff. I do know that the Air Force is allways looking for medical personell. You can go to www.airforce.com and research there. Give me a few days to get you the Navy info straight out of the Navy's mouth.

Astrid,

I have been patiently waiting for the last few days for a reply from the Navy folks. I not recieved any...Typical. What I would do is take all your credentials to the navy office in town and basically tell them what your plans are and see what they can do for you... I would do the same for the Air Force. You can do the other services too if you choose and then take all that information and use it to make an informed decision about what branch best serves your needs. I am sorry that I couldnt have been more help, I jsut didnt want to leave you hanging to long.

If you think that you cant handle the answer that I give you, then don't ask the question...... If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do. If I dont answer right away probably means that I am busy, but have patience, I will get to you.
