Question
how does one get the knowledge to fly fighter jets for the military?

Answer
Dear Adam --

If you qualify, the military will train you to fly the fighter jets.

You need to have be a quick learner, have quick reflexes, and excellent eyesight.  Generally you need to be a college graduate, but you could go to officer candidate school (OCS) and then off to pilot training.

Not all officers that qualify for flight school will qualify to go on to learn to fly jets.  Many will go on to learn to fly bombers and cargo aircraft.

Please feel free to write back, if you have additional questions.

All the best,
