Question
I received a Felony charge for vandalism and/or discharging a firearm(air powered bb gun) I never served juvenile time, and was off probation when I turned 19. I wanted to know if it would be possible for me to get a waiver and enter an officer training program... I would like to fly helicopters...

Thanks

Austin

Answer
Hi Austin,

I'm afraid that with a felony conviction (even as a juvenile), your chances of receiving a waiver as an officer or a warrant officer (Army) are small. The Army may very likely issue a felony waiver for enlistment, but probably not for a warrant officer or a commissioned officer.

Perhaps, after a few years as an Army enlisted member, with a felony conviction, after one has "proven" themselves, the Army may be willing to waive a previous felony conviction for the warrant officer flight training program (see: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/warrantofficerjobs/a/053a.htm).
