Question
I just have a few questions about different MOS'.

I was looking at three different jobs right now I just dont know which one I want to do yet. I am just looking for a little more info about them.

For the combat engineer MOS I have read that there were the three different units, if i enlisted as that would I get to choose or at least request to be placed in a certain unit? And if you know a good link for more info can you put it down ive been looking but cannot find a good one. And I was also wondering what they did when they are not deployed. I have family that are stationed at Lejeune and Pendelton, I guess thats where they train. They both told me that combat engineers change lightbulbs and hand out tools when they are not deployed, I just wanted to know if that was true.

I was also looking at helicopter crew chief. I just wanted to know how long the school was for them, and if they go to more than one? Also if they are actually in the helicopters or just waiting for them and then repairing at a base? They are mostly maintenance, right?

I think I have the right information on this job. For EOD technician, do you have to be a corporal?

I am going to the recruiter in a couple of weeks, just in case your wondering why I didnt ask the recruiter yet. I know I have a lot of questions.

Answer
Eric:

Engineers train alot when they are not deployed.  They not only build stuff, but blow it up as well.  I doubt if you'd get to pick your unit, however.  The Corps will send you were they need the most bodies.  While they may 'change light bulbs' when not deployed, they are also constantly in the field, training.

Not sure how long the school is for Crew Chief, but I know it's a good school.  It's also a good MOS to get into if you like to fly.  Yes, they are in the helos.  They are also the ones firing the machine guns most of the time.  While they do do alot of maint, again, they do get to fly as well.

EOD requires you to be a Cpl, yes.

Good luck!  Ask the recruiter all these questions as well.  He/She will help you out!

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
