Question
My little brother is going for the navy seals and has been training for it for almost a year now.  If he makes it into the seals, how often will he actually spend time were he is based?

We live in Virginia and i now if he becomes a seal he will try and get based here, so him wondering how often he will actually be back in his home state and for how long. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Nick,

SEALS are front-line, special operation forces for the Navy. That means they deploy (a lot). They go anywhere the Navy needs special operations capabilities, at any time (often with little or no notice).

While it's impossible to say for sure, because it's impossible to say what missions his unit would be tasked for, I would say that he can expect to be deployed away from his unit of assignment for *at least* six or seven months out of the year (not all at one time). That's the nature of special operations.

Some deployments (missions) may only be for a day or so, and others may be for several weeks or months.

Hope this helps!
