Question
I am 24 years old. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and currently working at a Level I Trauma Center in the Twin Cities. I am thinking of joining either the Army, Navy or Air Force Reserves.  Which branch has the best opportunities open for me as a woman and if I choose to pursue a Masters Degree, does one branch offer better opportunity than another?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

I assume, if you joined the Reserves, you would be interested in joining as a commissioned officer, in the nursing field?

If so, none of the services offer any advantage (education-wise) over any other.  The Montgomery Reserve G.I. Bill is the same for all of the Reserve services, as is Tuition Assistance.

So, what it boils down to is what you are most interested in.  Neither I, nor anyone can guess where your interests lie.

My advice would be to read Part I of my article "What the Recruiter Never Told You" at:  http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/recruiter.htm

While this is written primarily for those wishing to enlist, the multipart article gives an overview of each of the services.

Hope this helps!
