   1. can he deny me because I have ged
   2. can you become a ranger with a ged
   3. can you still become a ranger if you dont have a contract right off the bat

Answer
Hi Tony,

Your recruiter doesn't make the decision as to whether or not you can receive a Ranger Contract. That decision is made by the Army Recruiting command, via a computer system called REQUEST, which lists current standards required for each Army enlistment program.

I don't know if the Army is currently requiring a high school diploma for the Ranger option or not (these standards can change in the computer system from one day to the next, depending on "current needs." Other qualifications to become a Ranger can be found on my site at: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/jointservices/a/specialops_2.htm

When you take your trip to MEPS to take the ASVAB and the medical examination, as part of the process you will meet with an Army Job Counselor, who will punch your qualifications (ASVAB scores, medical exam results, available shipping dates, education level, etc.), and it will spit out the available MOSs (jobs) and enlistment programs (such as airborne option, ranger program, enlistment bonuses, etc.), before you sign the DEP (Delayed Enlistment Program) contract. For details, see my article at: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/recruiter3.htm
