Question
Hello,
My name is Spc.Mobel, Marlynn H. I have been out of the Active Army for a two years now and I guess I am IRR until 2008. My MOS used to be 77W -10 Water treatment Specialist. I guess I volunteered to come out to Iraq after I got out of the Army and joined KBR Halliburton doing the same MOS as ROWPU Operator I have been here since.

Question: Is it possible for myself to join the Airforce? I have injured knees altho I can still do the push ups and sit ups but alternate the run with a 2 mile walk in a set amount of time for a PT test. I am curious am I able to change over?

Answer
Hi Marlynn,

"Legally?"  Sure it's "possible."  Realistically?  It's not going to happen.

Of all the services, the active duty Air Force accepts the fewest prior service enlistees -- even prior service enlistees who were prior Air Force.

This is because prior service enlistee slots count against re-enlistment slots.  In other words, in order for there to be a "slot" for a prior-service enlistee, the service must be under their goal for re-enlistment.  Of all the services, the Air Force has the highest re-enlistment rate.  In short, the Air Force has absolutely no problem getting enough people to volunteer to re-enlist, so they are not interested in attracting prior service (from either the Air Force, nor other services) for those slots.

Your only chance would probably be the Air Force Reserves, or Air National Guard, and opporunties (available jobs) would depend on your ASVAB qualifications and job-slots available in Reserve/Guard units in your local area.

Hope this helps!
