Question
Could you tell me which branch of the service seems to stand above the rest? When people view military people are there  some branches that are harder to get into and complete? Name them in order of how most people view them. Thanks

Answer
Hi,

I'm afraid there is no correct answer to your question.  None of the services are more "elite" than the others, nor (to my knowledge) do people view one service as being more "elite" than others.

Each of the branches have their own specific primary mission.  For example, the Air Force's primary mission is to protect "air power, including strategic air power such as heavy bombers and space systems."  The Army's primary mission is to project "ground-power."  The Navy's primary mission is to project "sea power," or sea-based air power.  The Marine Corps primary mission is to project ground-power with an emphasis of anphibious landings (from Naval Vessels).

For details, see my article, "U.S. Military 101" at:  http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/generalinfo/a/military101.htm

Hope this helps!
