Question
QUESTION: My name is Alex Markey I am a former Marine who is trying hard to get back in. I was discharged with a general discharge for F- enlistment and it was also a discharged (UNDER HONOR CONDITIONS) I have been trying to get someone to call me back so that I can get my RE- Changed it is a RE-4 and I know that it means not recommended for reenlistment but my recruiter said that that there is a possibility that I could get back in I just have to get the RE code changed and go see and psychologist and then talk to a board of marines, is there anything more that I need to do? I have been calling a services helper at the VA and they said that they never had any one who is trying as hard as I am to get back in so they are still looking for a way to change the RE- code.  Who do I have to contact to get it changed?

ANSWER: Mr Markey:

Quite simply, you will have to apply to the board of corrections of Naval records to have your RE code changed.  You'll need to provide compelling reasons why they should do this, as well as proof of good character, references, and good citizenship.  This will not be an easy, nor a quick, process.   Since you were discharged for False Enlistment, I'm guessing that means you lied to a recruiter, at MEPS, or where-ever else, about something.  That 'something' may prevent you from enlisting into the military at all no matter what sort of upgrade you may, or may not, get.

That is the website.

Overall, I'd say you are going to have an uphill climb on this.

QUESTION: When i enlisted i did not put that i seen a psychologist when i was 6 years old. My recruiter told me not to worry about it so he said not to put it down. I know that you always have to tell your truth but he said that b-c i would only 6 that they wont really look into it. After i was in i felt that i had to tell them so that i didn't get in trob in the long run so i told them and next think you know i was discharged under honorable conditions..

Answer
Alex:

Yep, 'fraudulent enlistment'.  And, I was incorrect in the first information I gave you, you'll need to first contact Headquarters, Marine Corps and see if they will upgrade your RE code.  If/when they do not (likely they won't) then apply to the BCNR.   If not much time has passed, they probably won't upgrade you, but you can try.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
