Question
A patient knows he or she has cancer and does not want treatment or his or her family to know. Would this be considered closed awareness?

Answer
Is the patient alert and oriented? if so the next step is to not only inform her clearly of her desease, but the possible consequences of no treatment and inform her that as she deteriorates, she may need the support of her family. After all these steps has been followed, the next step is DOCUMENT the teachig and response. Only then you can say she is informed. Yers I would say this is clesed awareness.
