Question
I just want to thank you in advance for reading this question and hopefully giving good advice and information. I graduated high school 4 years ago and didn't take any classes to prepare myself for nursing school. As a matter of fact, I took all business classes. I recently started attending classes at my local community college and realized that though I am good at it, business is not what I want to do. I was recently admitted into the hospital due to an accident and spent time with a few nurses. I really appreciated the care they showed me and within a few days I decided that I wanted to be a nurse.

I wanted to know how much schooling, if any, is required before applying to a nursing school. I was never a big fan of science or math but I'm willing to take classes. So I wanted to know how much knowledge of biology, psychology and math I'll need.

Thanks again for you're time and any information you can give.

Erica, from Cape May, New Jersey.

Answer
I also hope this will be good advice. I was in my thirties when I went to nursing school and I only had a GED, so you are ahead of the game already. You also have some college under your belt another advantage. The minimum education you will need is 2 years for an Associates in nursing. You may get that at your local community college. This is the best decision you have ever made. I love being a nurse. There are virtually hundreds of areas you can specialize in. You get to actually choose what you want to do, but all areas are areas of serving others, it does not get any better that that. I serve in the best area of all, I am a hospice nurse.
