Question Hey,
I would like to do my M.F.A in Photography. I plan to specialize in Portrait photography concerntrating mainly on Children and Wedding Photography.
Please reccomend me a list of Top 5 universities that i could consider for my Masters program.
This is what I found in a Google search of the internet looking both for info of photography schools and another on MFA Photography schools. I found some that were offering online courses, others that offered both on-line and residence.
In all the programs you may investigate, I would suggest that you look for those that include digital photography courses. You should also have some business courses to help you in setting up your studio. Prices should not be figured on cost of the media you use in getting the picture but other things such as rent, living expenses, travel expenses, etc. Having a knowledge of the art of business is vital to your future whether it be only as a part of an existing studio or in setting up your own studio. I do urge you to get all the training you can prior to your startup in your chosen field.
Lots of luck to you. You will find that in the 40 years of my experience that there are thousands of schools that have appeared. When I started the only schools offering photography courses were part of a Journalism program. You couldn't take another type of photography such as what you are contemplating in Children and Wedding photography.
I wish you well in your search for the university that fits you. Good luck to you in your future life. You neglected to say where you were located so I had to be rather vague.
Sorry about that.
I do urge you to investigate all the Art and/or Photography galleries you can with a thorough examination of the art offered. Look at the offerings with a critical eye, how did they do it, what angle they used, what lighting, etc. You should do this the rest of your life to develop what I call your "Photographic Eyes". Some pictures can be made even more beautiful by moving to a different angle, different lighting, etc. Two photographers may perceive each setting differently.
