Do you recommend yellow page advertising and any other telephone directory advertising for photography businesses? Thanks

Thank you for your question about yellow page advertising.  About 5 years ago I would recommend the telephone directory for advertising a NEW business of any kind just starting. Today, yellow page advertising, especially for a photography business, is utterly useless and a complete waste of money IF you have a well done website.

I knew I had been getting very little results from my yellow page advertising but I just didn't know how little until a few years ago.  I decided to replace my yellow pages display ad business phone number on my website with an unlisted phone number. Within 24 hours of my doing this - only that unlited phone number received calls.  My $250 a month business phone did NOT RING AT ALL. This proved to me that the hard copy yellow pages telephone directory and the internet yellow pages are useless at least as far as a wedding photography business is concerned. I'm very sure there are many other types of businesses which are also utterly losing money on yellow page advertising.

Having been in business as long as I have and knowing several other business owners here in Chattanooga Tennessee, I can strongly recommend that the vast majority of businessess today who have a professional website which is search engine optimized do NOT need yellow page advertising at all.  This also means they can save money and not even use a business telephone.
