Question
Hi Don,

I'm in the process of starting my own photography business and need help with the wording of some specifics involving me being able to use the pictures taken of some of my clients on my web site. Should i include this in my reproduction contract?
If so how do I word it?

Thank you

Vina Hewett

Answer
Each person whose photo you want to use should be contacted and a separate form used specifying the use. Similar to this. I authorize XXX to use the pictures he has shown me on his website. Keep the wording simple and use it only for that purpose. You will also need to have permission to use the pictures as a sales tool demonstrating your skills to potential customers, this could be specified in the original contract.
Thanks for writing, am glad to help, if you need further help please use this forum. Good luck, in this economy you will need it, photography plays on the emotions which in a recession loses to the practical needs such as food, rent, gas, etc. I always recommend that you keep your day job until you reach a point where your net photo income is greater than the day job.  Portraits may be taken in evenings, weddings on weekends, other stuff can come in on weekends and evenings.  This is a good second income.

Experience

I have been a professional photographer for 35 years. I am transitioning to digital photography so I might be able to help in that field. I'm retired now but am still able to be helpful in the field. I have built a b/w, color darkroom, worked in a color lab, worked in the newspaper field both in darkroom and as a shooter.
