Question
I'm doing a project for my AVID class and I have to make a photography portfolio. Do you have any tips to help me excel at this project?

Answer
Take your time, visualize the picture. Then decide on how to best take the picture. Do you want a fast shutter speed or a slow speed. One will extend the depth of field of focus, the other will stop or slow the motion. This will give you a chance to exercise your photographic eyes. A successful photographer does not just snap the picture in front of him. He looks for the best angle, the best vantage point. He thinks about what the pic will say to the viewer. Is the picture merely a record pic like a family picture, or is it showing someone exerting effort in the picture. If you are taking pics at a sporting event then you will find your vantage point and take pics of the action, when you choose pics from that event you will choose those that shows what you are trying to say of the action. I would choose a theme for the portfolio, is it portrait, action, landscape, etc. and stay within that parameter for your portfolio. If I can help you further, please ask in this forum.

I have been a professional photographer for 35 years. I am transitioning to digital photography so I might be able to help in that field. I'm retired now but am still able to be helpful in the field. I have built a b/w, color darkroom, worked in a color lab, worked in the newspaper field both in darkroom and as a shooter.
