Careers: Photography - digital career

Question
I was a professional photographer in the 70s and got away from it to pursue writing and some other professions. Now in my 50s I'm very interested in digital photography and I'm considering making the sizable investment needed for a pro system (Olympus E20n, Photoshop etc.)My question is: how is digital quality for professional presentation? I have been told by one pro that digital just isn't there yet and that I should just shoot film, scan my photos and do a Photoshop makeover if I want to enhance the result. My particular interests are for news, feature and industrial shooting. Is digital "there" yet?

Answer
Hi Patrick,
I 100% agree with what your friend said. Digital just isn't there yet unless you want to spend 10 grand on a camera and printer setup and most people dont.
Though I do like to play with my digital camera, I never use it in a professional capacity.

Janet
